Lawatan ke Surau Ihsaniah, Kondo Rakyat

Saturday, July 5th, 2008

3 Julai 2008

Izzah

Work on Bukit Gasing goes on despite court order

THE developer involved in the development of Sanctuary Ridge Kuala Lumpur City – a project to build 68 bungalows on a 15.5ha site in Bukit Gasing said it has not received any stop-work order from Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL).

A Gasing Meridian spokesman said it had not received anything from the local authority to prevent them from continuing hoarding work at the site.
Together as one: The residents gathering to protest in spite of the rain.

“As far as we are concerned, work on the hoardings continues but we have not started construction work yet,” he said.

The company had begun putting up hoardings upon obtaining the approvals dated Oct 2, 2007, and Nov 16, 2007.

He was speaking in response to a protest by a group of Bukit Gasing residents on Sunday.

A group of residents joined the Joint Action Committee (JAC) and braved the rain to gather at the Taman Gasing Indah playground to protest against the work carried out on the hillside despite a court order.

On April 2, the Kuala Lumpur High Court granted the 108 residents an ex parte interim injunction to halt all development work pending a court hearing on April 23.

The residents had urged the mayor to put the public’s interest as the top priority instead of the developer’s.

They had also questioned why City Hall did not issue a stop work order despite the court award.

“The stay order issued by the court should be adhered to and the developer should stall any future development on the site,” Lembah Pantai MP Nurul Izzah Anwar said in a statement read by a representative.

The residents have also started a signature drive to show support for the campaign.

Kuala Lumpur, Demand your rights!

Monday, April 14th, 2008

The problem faced by Bukit Gasing is one caused by the corruption and unaccountability that the previous administration has bred within its ranks and then populated to the top ranks of City Hall. DBKL has found it easy to disregard the concerns of the ratepayers due to this.

I am outraged to note that -although the courts have granted judicial review on DBKL’s decision to allow the construction, the relevant parties are still continuing works. We demand that the relevant parties immediately obey the stay order issued by the High Court and stop further construction works. The rule of law must be respected and it begins here and now in the case of Bukit Gasing.

There are two related issues I wish to address today:

Firstly, the WP Pakatan Rakyat MPs including myself have brought up the specific case of Federal Hill to compel the Dato Bandar to exercise his right under rule 5 (2) of the Federal Territory Act 1982 and the Planning (Development) (Amendment) Rules 1994This will pave the way for the cancellation or at the very least forestalling of any other questionable development project, including that of Bukit Gasing – without resorting to the courts. It is stated in the KL Structure Plan 2020 that its objectives are to maintain a judicious balance between development, ecology and national heritage create a Tropical Garden City sensitive to it natural site and appropriate to its tropical regional location. Therefore, we must preempt any move to manipulate the existing land use as stated in the KL Structure Plan 2020.  Therefore we, the Pakatan Rakyat MPs urge everyone here, concerned citizens everywhere to partake in the discussion of the local KL draft plan on the 15th of May. We must remain vigilant in defending our rights.

Secondly, I will continue to exert pressure on DBKL next week to ensure that the developer respects the stay order mentioned earlier. I urge and request that all of you help me in this exercise. We must voice out our strong opposition in unison. That is the only way we can urge change.

DBKL’s display of unaccountability and lack of transparency in the well documented matter of Bukit Gasing only goes to show one thing. Datuk Bandar asked us in a statement a few days ago to show proof of corruption. We, as the Citizens of Kuala Lumpur ask Datuk Bandar, please prove us otherwise.

DBKL and Gasing Meridian in contempt of Court!

Wednesday, April 9th, 2008

Even though Judicial Review has been granted by the Courts, construction is still going on! Bukit Gasing is one of the few green lungs left in Lembah Pantai AND Kuala Lumpur!

DBKL and Gasing Meridian have not responded to the Stop Work order by the Courts. The community is very disappointed. Your ongoing support would encourage the community.

Do give your support and come for the Save Bukit Gasing Family Day. All those who care about Kuala Lumpur, the environment and if you just plain detest DBKL’s abuse of power please attend!
