PRESS STATEMENT

14 SEPTEMBER 2012
ANTI ISLAMIC MOVIE ON PROPHET MUHAMMAD

We denounce in the strongest terms the latest anti-Islamic film denigrating the religion and Prophet Muhammad. The movie, which is the product of a scheme to hurt Muslim sensitivities and stir chaos, must be withdrawn and condemned by world leaders unequivocally.

A line must be drawn between sacrilege and blasphemy on the one hand and free speech or even artistic license on the other. The U.S. must hold to account the individuals responsible for producing this disgusting and despicable movie and demonstrate that free speech cannot be abused for the purposes of committing hate crimes.

We unequivocally condemn the senseless killing of the U.S. Ambassador to Libya and other innocent individuals and call on all Muslims who cherish freedom not to react in a rash and violent manner. It is clear that the conspirators behind this movie want to sow animosity and strife between religions and peoples. To resort to violence and destruction is to play into their hands.

While this shameful film is not only offensive to Muslims throughout the world but to all religions, it must not be allowed to be hijacked by extremists as an excuse to create more violence. We once again call on all community leaders throughout the world to renew efforts to boost inter religious ties, engage in greater dialogue and not to allow misunderstanding and ill will to rule over us.
