Response to the Deputy Home Minister’s statement on the issue of statutory rape.

On the issue of statutory rape, the Deputy Home Minister Wan Junaidi’s statement is flippant, racist and unfitting of the position he holds.
His rationalization of the fact further proves that this UMNO-BN government is made up of individuals who are incapable of doing right by and enhancing the lives of all Malaysians.

What we have is a serious issue at hand that threatens our teens and children who are sacrosanct.

It disappoints me to see a person of such high stature being allowed to say such things. It angers me that he does not even have the decency to apologise.

UMNO politicizes every issue and it has shown that by making such racist remarks, even an issue as serious as statutory rape will be politicized.

When the safety of our young is compromised the future of our nation is compromised. UMNO does not realise this.

The Deputy Home Minister’s statement should be rebuked and he should be made to apologise to all Malaysians for his flippancy.

Najib as the PM and Minister in charge of Women’s Affairs should also be answerable. Don’t assume a portfolio for political reasons particularly when you’re unable to deliver.

The government should state what tangible actions are going to be taken to punish such offenders and to educate our people about their rights to prevent such incidences from happening.

The future of our young and women have been taken for granted for far too long by this government and this cannot be tolerated any further.
